Since founding her eponymous studio in Mexico City (2004), Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao (1972) has gained international recognition for reinterpreting historical culture and Mexican building traditions. Her work is highly varied and includes everything from the Ruta del Peregrino, which involves several architects, to the Botanical Garden, as well as single-family homes and public housing.
Working across various disciplines, Bilbao has collaborated with artists, philosophers, writers, and sociologists. Unlike many of her colleagues, Bilbao insists on using analog working methods such as drawing and collage throughout the creative process.
This volume was first published in English for the Tatiana Bilbao Estudio exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2019. The Spanish edition accompanies the exhibition “Tatiana Bilbao Estudio. Dibujar con la(s) historia(s)” at the Museum of the City of Mexico, within the framework of the 9th MEXTRÓPOLI Architecture and City Festival. Featuring essays by experts Nicolai Ouroussoff, Hilary Sample, and Rubén Gallo, and a conversation between Bilbao and Swiss architect Jacques Herzog, the book opens a window into the studio's working methods.
