Terence Hannum is a musician and visual artist from Baltimore. Focusing almost exclusively on manipulations of his own voice, Hannum describes "Impiety" as "impious sacred music." Drawing references from gospel music and Georgia's polyphonic singing traditions, Hannum's voice overlaps and clashes with itself in a profane blend of man and machine, floating over minimal synthetic pulses generated by his Elektron Analog Keys. Related to eschatological concepts in religion, the ultimate fate, and the judgment of the soul, these four surprisingly beautiful compositions are wrapped in an almost mystical power while rejecting the blindness of faith. In "Impiety," Hannum has created his own rite of desecration, turning choral music into an act of supreme sacrilege. Terence Hannum is the second member of Locrian to join Umor Rex's catalog, following drummer Steven Hess's collaboration with Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) last year.
Recorded by Terence Hannum (voice and Elektron Analog Keys) at Wainscot Caverns / Baltimore, MD. Mastered by Felix-Florian Tödtloff at Ætherweight in Berlin. Photos and artwork by Daniel Castrejón.
