LITERATURE / POETRY

The first automatic writing text in history, created by two of the greatest exponents of the surrealist movement. In Paris in 1919, André Breton and Philippe Soupault are two young men who feel the desire to write "a dangerous book." An experiment in which they will risk everything. Writing without correction, listening, quickly and without any aesthetic pretensions. It is about recording the murmur, that "dictation" that takes place inside us and that, to be authentic, must be free of any consideration of its meaning and value. Free of any ties. Therefore: revolutionary. To do this, they give themselves a period of between two weeks and a month, devoting up to ten hours a day. Like someone who is about to play, every afternoon they sit at the same table, facing each other, and write at full speed, without stopping. The day ends without further ado when the dictation runs out. In this way, the poets enter unknown territory. And the surprise first, and the euphoria later, do not take long to appear. And it is no wonder. What appears, what they collect every night, is far above their expectations. This is how everything will begin and, more specifically, surrealism. The magnetic fields is a foundational text on which Breton reflected years later in "The automatic message", a text also included in this edition and unpublished in Spanish to date.
