Climate crisis, energy crisis, economic crisis, geopolitical crisis: are these the four horsemen who announce to us today the end of the world as we know it?
Few texts have aroused as much fear and interest as the Apocalypse. Since its preaching by John of Patmos in the first century AD, it has taken on the color of each era: religious, visionary, poetic, hybrid. Apokalýpto is the action of showing what has been covered. The text is the unveiling and revelation of a secret intimately linked to another word: krisis. Because what is narrated here are the preparations for the Last Judgement. The fear of the end runs like a tremor through each verse of the Apocalypse. In it, today's readers recognize the uncertainty of a future that destroys the world as it is and brings us a new landscape that we still cannot imagine. Nothing can challenge us more: the salvation of the planet is at stake.
The new translation by the poet Fruela Fernández moves away from the biblical canon to bring it closer to lyric poetry, and places the text in the most vivid contemporaneity. Accompanied by the illustrations of Ignacio Cobo, as a free prophetic and tarot interpretation, this edition of the Apocalypse becomes an individual and collective oracle, an exercise in self-awareness of full relevance. O gar kairós eggýs, says the prophet: because the hour, the decisive moment, is approaching.
