State of Mushrooms is an invitation to peer into the world of edible mushrooms in Mexico. In this project, we use photography to capture the landscapes, the people, and the mushrooms in their habitat. Our guide on this exploration is Nanae Watabe, who, through her Japexica identity, weaves connections between the forest and the city, between the origin and destination of mushrooms in markets and restaurants. Nanae has a mycelial way of being: discreet and powerful, connecting seemingly distant worlds. To document this journey, she chose Peter Norman, a photographer and chef with a deep knowledge of wild mushrooms from his native Sweden.
