STORY

A Japanese entomologist with a peculiar relationship with food (his cousin died of anorexia and his cousin became a renowned sumo wrestler), and whose family still adheres to ancient Japanese precepts, voluntarily decides to stop eating after a strange dream one night. From then on, he begins to recall various inexplicable events that occurred the first time he traveled to Africa and discovered a new species of insect.

This story by Bellatin, adapted by Liniers and the narrator himself, has a nightmarish and disturbing quality, making it a very difficult gem to classify in the world of comics.

The story of Black Ball has also been adapted into an opera that Bellatin filmed with composer Marcela Rodríguez in Ciudad Juárez (the deadliest place in Mexico), and for Documenta in Kassel, Germany, the five-yearly exhibition of contemporary art.
