ESSAY

Lawrence Weiner was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1942 and was a central figure in Conceptual art in the late 1960s. He wrote Statements, his first book, in 1968. It is a small compilation of texts describing projects and instructions for the reader, and is considered one of the earliest documents of the Conceptual movement. His work frequently consists of the use of texts as graphic elements that in turn resort to semantic and grammatical interplay; linguistic installations on walls have been his primary medium. He has also ventured into video, film, sculpture, performance, sound art, and graphic design.

Alias offers its audience a title that places us at the foundations of Lawrence Weiner's thought. My Book is his book, a compilation of writings, pieces, and interviews translated into Spanish by various artists.

The cover of this edition was designed by Weiner himself, who also selected the book's title, which paraphrases a well-known piece of his from the 1980s, titled My House Is Your House.
