No Mexican should be called an immigrant or illegal immigrant in their own land. In 1848, Mexico was forced to cede approximately half of its territory to the United States to end the war, which currently includes the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. It is estimated that by 2025, nearly 55 million native-born, descendant, and undocumented Mexicans will reside in the United States.

Historical Context: In 1836, Texas gained independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. However, Texas sought to be annexed by the United States, which sparked a conflict with Mexico, which still considered Texas part of its territory. In 1845, the United States officially annexed Texas, exacerbating tensions. Armed clashes subsequently erupted in the border region, leading to the outbreak of the War of the Spanish Succession in 1846. The war resulted in a series of clashes and battles, including the famous Battle of Chapultepec in Mexico City. Finally, in 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, ending the conflict.
