The Tabaski festival, the most important of the Muslim holidays, takes on a particular character in Guet Nadar, a populous fishing village at the mouth of the Senegal River: one morning a year, just steps from the beach and amidst solemnity and revelry, thousands of sheep are slaughtered.

Alain-Paul Mallard was there to witness such an assault on the senses.
